What is the XTRAC laser?

The XTRAC laser is a state-of-the-art device that dermatologists at Heights Dermatology routinely use to treat psoriasis and a few other skin conditions. The laser produces ultraviolet B (UVB) light to target and attacks the DNA in certain white blood cells.

Psoriasis stems from a complication with these specific cells, so altering their DNA with a laser helps reduce the rate of skin cell growth, thereby reducing the number of plaques you develop.

Your treatment plan depends on the severity of your psoriasis and the frequency of your flare-ups. On average, Heights Dermatology recommends 10- to 15-minute treatments twice a week for around 12 weeks total.

What does the XTRAC laser treat?

Heights Dermatology routinely uses the XTRAC laser to treat several common skin conditions. After examining you and making or confirming a diagnosis, your provider may recommend XTRAC treatments for: Psoriasis

Psoriasis belongs to a category of skin conditions that affect the immune system. They speed up the growth of your skin cells, which causes plaques to appear on the skin. Plaques are scaly patches of skin that often itch, sting, or burn. Vitiligo

Vitiligo is a skin condition that causes your skin cells to lose their pigment. It can affect individuals of all skin types but is most common and noticeable in individuals with darker skin tones. Atopic dermatitis

Atopic dermatitis is another term for the most common type of eczema. It causes your skin to be red, itchy, and dry in certain areas.

How long do the results of XTRAC laser treatments last?

After your full course of treatment with the XTRAC laser is complete, you can expect a noticeable reduction in symptoms. Most individuals with psoriasis experience 4-6 months of clearance after XTRAC treatments, though each person is different.

The treatments with XTRAC are painless and cause minimal side effects. You don’t need to take any time off work for recovery after your procedures, and the results appear very quickly.

How quickly will I see results from XTRAC?

You don’t have to wait until your entire course of treatment is over to see the benefits of XTRAC. In fact, most patients see a difference after their first three or four treatments. You see a significant difference after the first five or six.
